Hello

New vinyl release coming 10.28

Hi everyone. I hope you are doing well. Thanks to everyone for supporting the album. Since we couldn’t play many concerts last year I decided to go back to the studio as soon as possible to record another album with this group. The sound we discovered during the making of the first one, deserved to be explored further.

Excited to announce a special 180 gram vinyl edition will be out on October 28! You can listen to the singles on Spotify or Apple Music.

But if you enjoy the music, simply head over to the store and pre-order your copy now against a special introductory offer for a limited time only.

Bio

ALL THE MEMORIES THAT OBJECTS CARRY

Since this 2nd album is basically a sibling of its predecessor, Rotterdam based pianist, composer & producer, ALEXANDER teamed up with bassist Thomas Pol, drummer Jamie Peet, and guitarist Jelle Roozenburg once again. The influence of jazz, with the accompanying improvisation character, is clearly present, but an alternative approach has been chosen in terms of sound and production. Elements of Hip Hop and 60s Pop & Cinematic Folk music can be heard in the rich textures of these songs.

“Music is often characterized as a combination of melody, harmony and rhythm, but before we recognize those ingredients, we simply hear a sound. I hope that when someone puts on the record, he or she experiences something based on not just the songs but the standalone sounds as well,” the Dutchman said. Expect spontaneity, adventure and collective improvisation. The quartet likes to venture into unknown territory, which means that the compositions constantly take on new forms during their concerts.

ALEXANDER

Alexander van Popta (1987) grew up around the record collection of his parents. He began banging on the Fender Rhodes electric piano of his father when he was around the age of four, but it wasn’t until five years later that he actually started piano lessons. After successful completion of the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he was taught by Kris Goessens, Rob van Bavel and Ilja Reijngoud, and followed masterclasses from Barry Harris, Richard Bona, Jeff Ballard, Baptiste Trotignon and Joshua Redman, Van Popta flew to New York to be taught by Aaron Parks.

Van Popta has now performed in dozens of countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America. He was the band leader of the sixteen-piece funk and hip-hop orchestra Re:Freshed Orchestra, which brought the company to the Royal Concertgebouw, the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Gouden Kalveren (Holland’s most prestigious award show for film). TV show DINO asked the orchestra as the house band. In addition, Van Popta performed as a sideman with the most diverse artists such as Adam Lambert, Gregory Porter, Ghostface Killah (Wu Tang Clan), Zara McFarlane, Ntjam Rosie, Glennis Grace, Hardwell, Benjamin Herman and Teus Nobel. In recent years he has regularly worked as an arranger for the Metropole Orchestra. He has worked on projects for Trijntje Oosterhuis, Broederliefde and Cory Wong. In addition, Alexander can be heard on the Red Bull Uncut sessions of Yung Nnelg, RIMON and Fresku.
